Real Madrid are reportedly tracking the progress of 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder Florentino Luis, on loan at Getafe from Benfica.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Florentino Luis is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in a future transfer window. The 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder is currently on loan at fellow La Liga club Getafe from Benfica.

Florentino Luis spent his formative years at three clubs, including Benfica. The youngster has been with the Portuguese giants for over a decade, making his first-team debut in February 2019. However, the 22-year-old has not made significant enough progress at Estadio da Luz since then.

Florentino spent the 2020/21 season on loan at AS Monaco before joining Getafe on a temporary deal last summer. However, the Portuguese midfielder’s struggles have continued at Coliseum Alfonso Perez, as he has started only seven games across all competitions. All this while, Florentino has been closely monitored by Real Madrid.

Interestingly, Florentino featured for Getafe as Real Madrid suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Azulones on Sunday. The interest from Los Blancos is surprising yet understandable. That is because Casemiro will turn 30 next year and Real Madrid will need to lay down a succession plan for him in the near future.

The Spanish giants seem to be approaching a crossroads when it comes to their midfield unit as Luka Modric is already in the twilight of his glittering career, whereas Toni Kroos is approaching the final years of his playing days. Casemiro is the youngest of the three Real Madrid midfield stalwarts.

However, it still behoves Real Madrid to plan for life after the Brazilian international. To that end, several midfielders have popped up on the Merengues’ radar, including Gabriel Menino, with Florentino also a viable target.

However, Real Madrid might not launch an offensive for the 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder as he has not shown enough potential at Getafe. While the La Liga heavyweights have been closely monitoring his progress, Florentino seems destined to return to Benfica at the end of the season. It remains to be seen who becomes the key midfield target for Real Madrid.
