Real Madrid are reportedly closely monitoring the situation of 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Menino over a possible summer move.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Gabriel Menino is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in next summer’s transfer window. The 21-year-old Palmeiras midfielder is viewed as the long-term successor for compatriot Casemiro.

Gabriel Menino spent his formative years with Guarani FC before graduating from the Palmeiras academy in 2019. The Brazilian midfielder made his first-team debut for the Alviverde at the onset of the 2020 season. Since then, he has made 92 appearances, chipping in with six goals and 11 assists in the process.

At the same time, Menino also earned his maiden call-up to the Brazilian national side recently, although he is yet to make his debut for the Selecao. The 21-year-old’s ability to reprise different midfield and defensive roles has been particularly impressive. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among his suitors.

The Brazilian midfielder has been on Real Madrid’s radars for months now, having first been linked with them early last year. The continued interest from Real Madrid makes a world of sense, considering they have started laying down the succession plan for their three midfield stalwarts, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

Two of the pieces of the puzzle already seem to be in place in Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga. However, the Spanish giants are also seeking direct successors for Casemiro, Modric and Kroos. To that end, Menino is viewed as a long-term replacement for Casemiro.

Alternatives for the 21-year-old would be Aurelien Tchouameni, Franck Kessie and others, with several linked with Real Madrid to that end. Apart from Menino, two other midfielders are specifically viewed as successors for Modric and Kroos.

While Real Madrid could sign Florian Neuhaus as a long-term replacement for Kroos, Lovro Majer is viewed as a successor for Modric. As for the pursuit of Menino, it remains to be seen if the Spanish giants sign the 21-year-old in the summer transfer window or keep him on their radar for a longer period instead.
