Barcelona face competition from Barcelona in the race to sign Chelsea star Timo Werner, who are looking to offload the German to fund a move for Jules Kounde.

According to a report from Fichajes, Chelsea are willing to part ways with Timo Werner in the summer to fund a move for key defensive target Jules Kounde. And, the German international has emerged as a transfer target for Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Werner signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2020 but has had a difficult time at Stamford Bridge. While he made a handy contribution in the Blues’ UEFA Champions League triumph in his debut season, the former RB Leipzig striker was guilty of missing easy goalscoring opportunities on several occasions.

Following the signing of Romelu Lukaku last summer, the 25-year-old’s game-time has been hit this season, while injuries and coronavirus have also affected his involvement. As a result, Werner has featured in just nine Premier League matches in 2021/22, finding the back of the net on one occasion only.

With Chelsea among the clubs involved in the pursuit of Erling Haaland in the summer, Werner could be a casualty in the summer. And, it seems like that the 25-year-old has no shortage of suitors in the form of La Liga bigwigs Barcelona and reigning German champions Bayern Munich.

The interest from Barcelona makes a great deal of sense, considering that they have struggled for goals in the current campaign. Sergio Aguero was forced into early retirement while fellow summer signing Luuk de Jong looks set for an exit this month after failing to make any sort of impact.

With Memphis Depay’s form also blowing hot and cold, a top centre-forward is the need of the hour for the Catalan giants. However, given their financial situation, they are likely to wait till the summer to make a marquee signing, having already captured Ferran Torres recently. Like Chelsea, Haaland is also on the shopping list for Barça, but they are also keeping tabs on Werner.

However, they are set to face competition from Bayern Munich in pursuit of the 25-year-old German international. Die Roten are on the lookout for a long-term successor for superstar Robert Lewandowski, who will be entering the final year of his contract in June and could leave the Allianz Arena amid interest from Real Madrid.

Werner has emerged as an option for Bavarian giants due to his proven pedigree in German football while he also played some of his finest football under current manager Julian Nagelsmann during their time together at RB Leipzig. With Bayern now set to go head-to-head with Barcelona in pursuit of the Chelsea forward, it remains to be seen where he ends up next season.
