Tottenham could reportedly swoop in for Antoine Griezmann as Antonio Conte desperately looks to reinforce his squad’s attacking unit.

According to Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur can launch the offensive for French international Antoine Griezmann. The attacker is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid from Barcelona, as his future in Spain looks grim.

In August, Antoine Griezmann grabbed headlines in the late hours of the transfer deadline day when he decided to return to Atletico Madrid from Barcelona. The arrangement is for an initial one-year loan deal with an obligation to buy if the player meets several criteria.

It was a strange decision considering Lionel Messi had already left Barcelona by that time, which would have made the Frenchman the de facto leader of their attack. Instead, he chose to end his time temporarily with the Blaugrana and return to former club Atletico Madrid.

With big things expected from the Frenchman back at the Wanda Metropolitano, he has only produced average performances. The 30-year-old’s form has coincided with that of the entire team, which has fallen down the La Liga standings, making it all the more difficult to retain their domestic title.

However, the Colchoneros are prepared to cut their losses with the expensive Frenchman and could look at severing ties early into his deal. Griezmann will likely return to Barcelona, where he remains unwanted, especially considering Xavi Hernandez has embarked on grooming young players, highlighted by their recent capture of Ferran Torres from Manchester City.

With the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, only Premier League clubs and a few other European bigwigs are well placed to meet Griezmann’s financial demands. Unsurprisingly, Tottenham are reportedly keen on bolstering their attack with players like Gareth Bale in the January transfer window as Antonio Conte eyes fresh reinforcements.

Aside from Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min, none of the other forwards have impressed the Tottenham manager. As Spurs embark on a race to clinch a top four finish, the north London side needs a high calibre attacker.

Griezmann, 30, may ponder the opportunity to play in the Premier League after spending most of his career in Spain. The Barcelona loanee might have hoped some of the bigger clubs from England would be interested in his services, but that is not the case.

Tottenham are a club on the rise, and with a few tweaks to their attack, they can be real contenders for a top-four spot. However, whether Conte and Spurs will make a move for the Barcelona loanee remains to be seen.
