Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is reportedly one of the options on La Liga giants Sevilla’s radar over a possible move in January.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Luka Jovic is the subject of interest from Sevilla over a possible move in the January transfer window. The Real Madrid striker is viewed as a potential alternative to Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

Luka Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2019 and has since struggled to reach the heights he had scaled at the Bundesliga club. The Serbian international has largely had to play second fiddle to the brilliant Karim Benzema, sufficing with whatever little game-time comes his way. On top of that, he has not helped his case by being wasteful when given a chance.

However, there have been signs of a turnaround in fortunes in recent weeks, with Jovic making a couple of crucial contributions for Real Madrid. The 24-year-old has one goal and two assists in 13 appearances across all competitions thus far this term. The player’s recent resurgence seems to have captured the attention of Sevilla.

Los Nervionenses are eager to sign a striker in the January transfer window, as Youssef En-Nesyri will be embarking for the Africa Cup of Nations next month. The Moroccan forward’s absence will leave Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui with Rafa Mir as the only natural striker at his disposal.

As a result, the former Real Madrid boss is eager to enter the market for a striker this winter, with Anthony Martial reportedly being Sevilla’s priority. However, the La Liga giants have been rebuffed by Manchester United following an initial approach over a loan offer.

The Andalusian club is, thus, searching the transfer market for alternatives, with Jovic emerging as a viable target for them. Apart from the Real Madrid forward, Sevilla’s sights are also set on Joselu and Julian Alvarez. In addition, another Real Madrid striker in Mariano Diaz has been heavily linked with them.

As for the pursuit of Jovic, it remains to be seen if a January transfer sees the light of the day, especially with recent reports claiming that Real Madrid might oppose all approaches over a winter deal. It will also be interesting to see if Sevilla can convince Manchester United with their next offer for Martial, which will then effectively end their interest in Jovic.
