Barcelona have reportedly opened talks with 29-year-old Spanish international Alvaro Morata over a possible loan deal in January.

According to a report by Goal, Alvaro Morata’s entourage has been approached by Barcelona over the prospect of a short-term loan in the January transfer window. The Catalan giants are prepared to offer Memphis Depay to Juventus to sweeten the deal.

Alvaro Morata is currently in his second stint with Juventus, having rejoined the club on loan from Atletico Madrid in September 2020. However, the transfer has not been a success for the Spanish international, who has struggled to score goals consistently.

The ongoing campaign has been a dud for the 29-year-old, as he has only managed seven goals and three assists in 23 appearances across all competitions. As a result, Juventus will not take up their option to sign Morata permanently, with the Spaniard set to return to Atletico Madrid in the summer. However, Barcelona could present an interesting alternative.

The interest from Barcelona is surprising yet understandable. With the Blaugrana in financial turmoil, they cannot afford to pay much to sign a striker in the January transfer window, as most of their winter budget is likely to have been spent on the acquisition of Ferran Torres.

So, the Catalan giants are being forced to rely on possible loan deals to get through the second half of the 2021/22 season, which brings Morata into the picture. And Morata’s entourage has already been approached by Barcelona. However, securing the services of the 29-year-old will be a tricky procedure for Barcelona, as Juventus will need to cancel their loan deal with Atletico Madrid.

In addition, Barcelona will have to reach a separate agreement with their La Liga rivals over a new loan deal. Meanwhile, to sweeten the deal for Juventus, the Catalan giants are prepared to offer Memphis Depay, who has reportedly been linked with the Bianconeri recently.

However, according to Goal, the Serie A heavyweights are not entirely convinced of Depay’s qualities and will need some convincing to agree to such a deal. So, it remains to be seen if Barcelona will manage to sign Morata on loan this January after establishing contact with the Spanish international.
