Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have made an enquiry with the agent of Real Madrid defender Eder Militao to explore the possibility of a transfer.

According to a report from El Nacional, Premier League giants Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all enquired about the availability of Real Madrid defensive mainstay Eder Militao.

The Brazilian defender burst onto the scenes at Portuguese outfit FC Porto before arriving at Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth €50 million. There were a lot of question marks over the transfer fee paid as Zinedine Zidane hardly used Militao in his debut campaign in Spain.

However, all that has changed drastically over the past couple of years. Sergio Ramos’ injury issues last term afforded the 23-year-old a regular run in the side, and he made the most of it, establishing himself as one of Real Madrid’s top performers. Following the departure of Ramos and Raphael Varane earlier this year, he has stepped up to become the leader of the defence.

Militao’s performances have been crucial to Real Madrid climbing to the top of the La Liga standings this season. And his displays have made clubs across Europe sit up and take notice. Indeed, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all cast admiring glances towards the Brazilian international.

Chelsea are potentially looking at a major defensive overhaul as four of their frontline centre-backs are out of contract at the end of the season. Indeed, Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva all see their current contracts run out in the summer. Azpilicueta is already believed to have agreed terms with Barcelona, while Rudiger is said to be on his way to Real Madrid.

So, it becomes imperative that Thomas Tuchel & co. bring in a new top-quality centre-back leading to links with Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt. Now, Militao, too, has emerged as an option for the Blues, with them getting in touch with his agent to enquire about his availability.

As for Liverpool, they already strengthened their defence last summer with the acquisition of Ibrahima Konate. However, Joel Matip’s well-known injury history coupled with uncertainty over the futures of Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Phillips could force Jurgen Klopp to bring in another top defender, making Militao a viable target for the Merseyside giants.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are also packed with quality in the centre-back department with Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nathan Ake. However, the latter has been linked with an exit due to his reduced game-time at the Etihad Stadium. And in case he does leave, Pep Guardiola could look at bringing in a new centre-back, in which case Militao can become an option.

Apart from the three clubs mentioned above, even PSG and Bayern Munich are keen on the Brazilian. However, as per the report, Militao is happy and settled at Real Madrid and is not considering leaving the club anytime soon. So, the Premier League trio might have to look elsewhere to bolster their defensive ranks.
