Manchester United are reportedly pondering using struggling forward Anthony Martial as part of the deal to sign Boubacar Kamara from Olympique Marseille.

According to a report from MARCA, Manchester United are interested in signing Olympique Marseille’s defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara in January and are plotting to use Anthony Martial as a bargaining chip in the deal.

Kamara came through the youth ranks at Marseille and has established himself as one of the most accomplished holding midfielders in Ligue 1 over the past couple of seasons. The 22-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, though, leading to speculations over his future in France.

Manchester United and Newcastle United have emerged as ardent suitors of the Frenchman, with both clubs vying to sign him in the upcoming January transfer window. And, the Red Devils are now working on a strategy to blow their competition out of the way and capture the midfielder’s services.

As per the report, the 20-time English champions are willing to use Anthony Martial as a bargain to lure Kamara to Old Trafford. The 26-year-old has struggled for game-time over the past eighteen months at Manchester United. And, he is seeking an exit in January to boost his prospects of making it to the France squad for the World Cup in 2022 by playing regularly.

Several clubs like AS Monaco, Juventus, Sevilla have shown an interest in signing the misfiring forward, with the latter even having a loan bid rejected by Manchester United. Now, though, the Red Devils are considering the prospect of sending Martial on loan to Marseille in the hope that it will convince the Ligue 1 outfit to negotiate a transfer for Kamara, who himself is believed to be open to joining United.

The 22-year-old has the potential to be an excellent addition for the Mancunian giants, who have lacked a proper defensive midfielder in the ranks. Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger and has been reduced to a bit-part player at best, while Scott McTominay and Fred have not been convincing enough while playing in the No. 6 role.

So, adding someone like Kamara, who can also provide cover in the centre-back department, could prove to be a handy signing for Manchester United. At the same time, sending Martial on loan would mean that the Red Devils could reintegrate him back into the squad next season or sell him off for a bigger fee, should he recapture his best form back in France.
