Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 20-year-old Brazilian midfield prospect Danilo Oliveira from Palmeiras.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Juni Calafat has submitted a new name for consideration at Real Madrid. 20-year-old Palmeiras midfielder Danilo Pereira is the subject of interest from the Merengues over a possible move in a future transfer window.

Danilo Oliveira spent his formative years at four different clubs, including Palmeiras. The Brazilian midfield prospect joined the Alviverde from Pituacu Futebol Clube Cajazeiras in 2018. Initially signed on loan by Palmeiras in 2018, the player completed his permanent move two years later.

The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for Palmeiras in September 2020 and has since made 83 appearances for the Brazilian giants, chipping in with five goals and five assists in the process. Danilo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Juni Calafat, Real Madrid’s chief scout, taking note of his talents.

The interest from Real Madrid is understandable, considering Casemiro is set to turn 30 next year. And with Carlo Ancelotti not having a natural cover for the Brazilian midfielder in his squad, the Spanish giants need to invest in a holding midfielder at the earliest opportunity.

Casemiro has also been linked with several European giants, with recent reports claiming he is in talks to join Paris Saint-Germain. While Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde can reprise the role Casemiro essays, the youngsters are primarily box-to-box midfielders, Real Madrid must seek a natural successor.

The La Liga heavyweights seem to be laying down a succession plan for their first-choice midfield trio of Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. And with two pieces of the puzzle already in place in Camavinga and Valverde, signing someone like Danilo would be a step in the right direction for Real Madrid.

Apart from the 20-year-old Brazilian prospect, Ryan Gravenberch is among the options on Real Madrid’s radar. As for the pursuit of Danilo, it remains to be seen if the Spanish giants decide to launch the offensive to prise him away from Palmeiras anytime soon. For now, though, it looks like they are merely closely monitoring the youngster’s progress, with a summer move unlikely at the moment.
