Serie A giants AC Milan are reportedly keen on signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid in a €35 million deal next summer.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Marco Asensio has emerged as a key target for AC Milan heading into next summer’s transfer window. The Serie A giants are prepared to offer €35 million to secure the services of the Real Madrid forward, who will be weighing up his options after the season ends.
Marco Asensio has endured a roller-coaster ride since joining Real Madrid from RCD Mallorca in July 2015. The Spanish international’s spell with Los Blancos could be divided into two phases – one before he sustained a long-term knee injury, wherein he was widely regarded as one of the most promising young attackers in Spain, and the other post his return last year.
In the last 18 months, the 25-year-old has blown hot and cold but has shown signs of resurgence in recent weeks. Asensio has six goals and one assist in 19 appearances across all competitions thus far this season. However, the player could seek a departure from Real Madrid next summer due to his status as a rotation option. Such a situation has alerted several clubs, including AC Milan.
The interest from AC Milan is understandable, considering Samu Castillejo has been sub-par during his stint with the club. In addition, Alexis Saelemaekers has blown hot and cold despite showing a lot of promise in the last couple of seasons.
So, having added competition for Saelemaekers in the form of Asensio could serve Milan well. To that end, the Serie A giants have recently been linked with several wide-attackers, including Hakim Ziyech, with Real Madrid forward Asensio also a viable target for the club.
For his part, the 25-year-old forward is weighing up the prospect of leaving Real Madrid to join AC Milan next summer, as the arrival of Kylian Mbappe could adversely affect his fortunes. And the Serie A heavyweights are prepared to shell out €35 million to sign Asensio.
Recent reports have linked Asensio with several clubs, including another Serie A giant in Juventus. However, Milan’s entry into the picture spices things up, and it will be interesting to see if they can prise him away from Real Madrid on a €35 million deal next summer.
