Manchester United are reportedly confident of their chances of signing Florian Wirtz next summer despite competition from Chelsea and Liverpool.

A recent report from Daily Star has offered an update on the race to sign Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen playmaker is among the hottest prospects in world football right now, which has unsurprisingly made him a wanted man, especially in the Premier League.

Chelsea, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich have all registered interest in signing the young playmaker. However, they are set to face stiff competition from Manchester United, who believe that the recent appointment of Ralf Rangnick can give them the edge in the pursuit of Wirtz.

A former head of operator for the Red Bull’s football franchise, Rangnick is a respected figure, particularly in German football. Over the years, his coaching and tactical philosophy have influenced the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel. Manchester United believe his stature in the Bundesliga can coax Wirtz into joining the Red Devils next summer.

With Paul Pogba facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, especially amid interest from Juventus, Manchester United are on the hunt for creative midfielders across Europe.

Although Wirtz is not a central midfielder by trade, the German fits the bill well due to his versatility and productivity in the final third. The youngster has been involved in as many as 19 goals in 21 competitive matches this term, helping Leverkusen compete for the Champions League places.

The German international’s performances have not gone unnoticed, though, with Chelsea and Liverpool also on his trail. Much like Manchester United, both the Premier League giants have respected German coaches at the helm that can certainly influence the 18-year-old. In fact, the Blues are already prepared to make a formal attempt to sign the youngster next summer.

Liverpool are not far behind either, with Jurgen Klopp desperate to upgrade his options in the creative department. Hence, Manchester United must move swiftly if they are to get their hands on Florian Wirtz.

Bayer Leverkusen themselves won’t make the job any easier, with the Bundesliga giants setting a €70 million asking fee for the exciting teenager. While all three parties in England certainly have the means to pull off this deal, a lot will depend on how well they manage to offload their fringe players in order to balance the books next summer.
