Manchester United are monitoring the situation of RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams, with Ralf Rangnick potentially eyeing a reunion.

A recent report from The Athletic has offered an update on Manchester United’s transfer policy. The Premier League giants are bracing themselves for a busy January ahead, with multiple names already being linked with a move for Old Trafford. One of such players is Tyler Adams of RB Leipzig.

It is believed that United’s new assistant coach Chris Armas is a keen admirer of the midfielder, whose connections with Ralf Rangnick makes the Red Devils one of the potential destinations for the youngster next month.

Formerly of the NY Red Bulls youth academy, Adams is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the growing footballing scene in the United States. Since his move to RB Leipzig in 2019, the 22-year-old has notched up 86 competitive appearances for the club, helping Die Roten Bullen emerge as one of the biggest clubs in Germany. He had also helped the club reach the UEFA Champions League semi-final in 2020.

During his time in the Bundesliga, the New York native has made quite an impression with his versatility in midfield. Despite being a number six by trade, the youngster is capable of featuring out wide and even as a right wing-back, if required. Such flexibility had made him a vital asset for Leipzig’s previous coach, Julian Nagelsmann.

As far as Adams’ association with Rangnick goes, the German tactician was the one to bring him to Leipzig in January 2019. He was the interim head coach of RBL at the time while simultaneously serving as the head of sport and development for the Red Bull football franchise. Adams had even featured in 12 games under Rangnick, including the final of the DFB Pokal, though his side did lose 3-0 to Bayern.

Almost one and a half years after his departure from Leipzig, it appears Rangnick is keen on a potential reunion with Adams, this time at Old Trafford. His new club Manchester United are in desperate need of reinforcements in the midfield unit amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Nemanja Matic, a January target for Newcastle.

Tyler Adams could be an ideal option given his tactical flexibility and an aggressive style of play that makes him a tailor-made fit for the English brand of football. However, in addition to the American international, Rangnick is also eyeing a reunion with his RB Leipzig teammate Amadou Haidara, although it remains to be seen whether United will be keen on meeting the midfielder’s £32 million valuation.
