Real Madrid will reportedly demand €15 million to sell 28-year-old forward Mariano Diaz to La Liga rivals Sevilla in January.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Mariano Diaz is keen on joining Sevilla in the January transfer window. And Sevilla will need to fork out €15 million if they wish to prise the 28-year-old forward away from Real Madrid this winter.

Mariano Diaz is currently in his second stint with Real Madrid, with Los Blancos re-signing him from Lyon in August 2018. However, the transfer has not panned out as envisioned for the player, as he has had to play second-fiddle to Karim Benzema while also sharing game-time with Luka Jovic when the rare opportunities present themselves.

The ongoing campaign has been the perfect illustrator of the same, as the 28-year-old forward has managed only 107 minutes of game-time across three outings, earning just one start thus far. Mariano’s frustrations at Real Madrid seem to have boiled over, and he is seeking a January exit from the club, with La Liga rivals Sevilla ready to offer him an escape route out of the Santiago Bernabeu.

The interest from Sevilla is somewhat surprising, considering Youssef En-Nesyri and Rafa Mir have performed admirably, for the most part, this season. However, Munir El Haddadi has blown hot and cold since joining the Andalusian club from Barcelona, and Mariano could be an upgrade on the 26-year-old forward.

In addition, En-Nesyri is the subject of interest from several big-name clubs across Europe. So, if the Moroccan striker departs the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, Sevilla will need to invest in an able replacement. To that end, Mariano is a viable target for the La Liga giants, with the 28-year-old ready to leave Real Madrid.

Now, Real Madrid’s asking price for the player has been revealed, with the Merengues demanding €15 million in exchange for his services. The report asserts that Sevilla can afford to pay such a sum, bringing Mariano closer to a switch to Real Madrid’s La Liga rivals.

What remains to be seen is if Sevilla will launch the offensive for Mariano in the coming weeks to close a €15 million deal in the January transfer window. For now, all that remains certain is that Mariano is keen on leaving Real Madrid at the earliest possible opportunity.
