Juventus have made contact with Manchester United, seeking a potential January move for Anthony Martial.

According to Tuttosport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Juventus have initiated a discussion with Manchester United regarding a potential move for Anthony Martial. The Italian giants are among many clubs interested in the services of the attacker, who is expected to leave Old Trafford in January.

Having mustered only two starts in the Premier League this season, the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo has been detrimental to Martial’s status in the United squad. He has fallen behind the Portuguese sensation as well as other stars, including Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood in the pecking order. It has led to Martial featuring in just 200 minutes of league football so far.

The lack of first-team opportunities has understandably left the Frenchman frustrated. As a result, the player is now seeking a move away from Old Trafford in January, most likely on a temporary basis, as the attacker does have a contract at Manchester United until 2024.

One may argue that Martial’s fortunes could change under the leadership of new coach Ralf Rangnick. But it remains unlikely, as the German tactician is more interested in finding alternatives in the market, with Kingsley Coman being identified as one of the potential targets.

Hence, a move away from Manchester appears to be the most logical solution for the 26-year-old, with Juventus emerging as an ideal option. The Bianconeri are currently in the market for attacking reinforcements as they prepare for life without Dejan Kulusevski, amid interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are reportedly prepared to shell out €30 million for the services of the Swedish international this January.

Kulusevski’s potential sale could open up an avenue for Martial to join Juventus. But it seems the Old Lady are set to face stiff competition from Sevilla in the pursuit of the former Monaco starlet. In fact, the player has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants ahead of a potential short-term loan move.

Juventus themselves remain unsure regarding their interest in Martial. Although the United forward is among the players considered by Massimiliano Allegri, the club is yet to make a definitive decision on whether they should follow up on their pursuit and make an offer. And with time running out, it won’t be surprising to see the Bianconeri miss out on the Frenchman in the upcoming January transfer window.
