Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Manuel Lanzini on loan from West Ham United in the January transfer window.

According to a report by 90 min, Manuel Lanzini is the subject of interest from Newcastle United over a possible loan move in the January transfer window. The West Ham United playmaker is among a slew of players being targeted by the Magpies this winter.

Manuel Lanzini joined West Ham United from Al-Jazira in July 2015 and made an immediate impression at the London outfit. Initially signed on a season-long loan deal by the Hammers, the Argentine attacker permanently moved to the club in 2016 and was a solid customer in the final third for two more seasons.

However, after sustaining a long-term injury in the 2018/19 season, the 28-year-old has become a bit-part player at West Ham. The advent of Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals has not helped Lanzini’s case, and he is essentially a rotation option for David Moyes. Such a situation has alerted Newcastle United to the potential availability of the player, who has featured 177 times for the Hammers.

The interest from Newcastle United is understandable, considering they are desperate to make impact signings in the January transfer window to rescue a season that is threatening to go awry in the second half of the campaign. To that end, the Magpies have been heavily linked with a raft of players since the Public Investment Fund completed their takeover.

As far as playmakers are concerned, Donny van de Beek is among the attackers on Newcastle’s radar. The Tyneside club has also been linked with players outside the Premier League, and an offer for Lucas Paqueta has already been rejected by Ligue 1 giants Lyon.

However, as the January transfer window approaches, Newcastle United could be forced to direct their attention towards the Premier League. To that end, the Magpies have made several enquiries already and are putting a plan in place to bring in two players on loan this winter. As a result, West Ham attacker Lanzini has emerged as a target.

It is unclear whether West Ham will be open to loaning Lanzini out in the January transfer window. However, with the Hammers still alive and kicking in the UEFA Europa League, it is reasonable to assume that David Moyes could oppose the idea of sending the Argentine international to Newcastle. So, it remains to be seen who Newcastle will land this winter.
