Newcastle United are reportedly plotting a January loan move for Manchester United outcast Anthony Martial, with a £6 million loan fee mooted.

According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Anthony Martial has emerged as the priority target for Newcastle United heading into the January transfer window. The Magpies are prepared to offer a £6 million loan fee to secure the services of the Manchester United outcast.

Anthony Martial joined Manchester United from AS Monaco in a surprise big-money move in September 2015. The Frenchman was initially branded as a player who would be a waste of money, but he made an immediate impact at Old Trafford, finishing his maiden campaign as the Red Devils’ top scorer.

The 26-year-old also finished as Manchester United’s top scorer in the 2019/20 season, picking up the slack while other key players underperformed or were out injured. However, in the last 18 months, Martial has hit rock-bottom at Manchester United, with his form spiralling downwards.

As a result, he slowly tumbled down the pecking order last season and has become a bit-part player for Manchester United since Cristiano Ronaldo’s return. As a result, Martial has managed to rake in just 359 minutes of game-time across ten appearances this season, scoring just one goal in the process. His struggles have not detracted prospective suitors, with Newcastle United keen on signing him.

The interest from Newcastle United is understandable, even though Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin are the only players who have impressed consistently this season. However, with Joelinton blowing hot and cold since arriving from Hoffenheim and Dwight Gayle heavily linked with a January departure, Martial could come in as an upgrade on the duo.

According to recent reports, Newcastle United could be leading the race to sign Martial ahead of other suitors like Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus. And now, the Magpies are ready to step up their efforts to sign Martial, with a loan offer being prepared, complete with a £6 million fee to tempt Manchester United.

However, it is unclear if Manchester United will be willing to loan Martial out to Newcastle amid recent suggestions that several Premier League clubs are hesitant in dealing with them. So while the Tyneside club is ready to pay a hefty £6 million loan fee, the transfer is not set in stone.

So, it remains to be seen if Newcastle can sign Martial, whose time at Manchester United is nigh on ending. If not, Newcastle could turn their attention towards Edin Dzeko, according to The Sun, as their search for a striker intensifies.
