Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Alex Telles, with the Manchester United defender emerging as a possible option to replace Jordi Alba.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Alex Telles is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in next summer’s transfer window. The Manchester United defender is viewed as an option to replace Jordi Alba.
Alex Telles joined Manchester United from FC Porto in October 2020 and has since been unable to nail down a spot as a regular. That is because the Brazilian’s arrival at Old Trafford has coincided with Luke Shaw’s resurgence. However, Shaw has blown hot and cold this season, which has given Telles a window of opportunity to seal his berth, especially since Ralf Rangnick took charge.
The 29-year-old has made eight appearances across all competitions this season, chipping in with one goal in the process. The player’s exploits have been noticed by one of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Barcelona keen on signing him from Manchester United.
The interest from Barcelona makes sense, considering Jordi Alba is facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou. The Catalan giants are likely to begin a squad overhaul in next summer’s transfer window, and some of the most experienced players, including Alba, could be on the chopping block. The Spanish international has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, putting Barcelona in a spot of bother.
As a result, the La Liga heavyweights have been linked with several left-backs, including Alejandro Grimaldo. According to El Nacional, Grimaldo is Barcelona’s preferred option to replace Alba. Still, they are also laying down contingency plans if they cannot sign their former academy ace.
To that end, Telles has emerged as one of the options for Barcelona, with Hassane Kamara and Marcos Alonso also on their radar. The Manchester United defender is under serious consideration at Camp Nou, and his offensive output could align with Xavi Hernandez’s tactical philosophy.
