West Ham United are reportedly ready to rival Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Feyenoord’s Argentine defender Marcos Senesi.

According to a report from 90Min, West Ham United have set their sights on Feyenoord centre-back Marcos Senesi, who is also on the radars of fellow Premier League clubs Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

A product of Club Atletico San Lorenzo de Almagro in his native Argentina, Senesi went on to make 70 first-team appearances for them before moving to Europe in 2019, when he signed for Feyenoord. Since arriving in the Netherlands, the 24-year-old has taken the field on 92 occasions, racking up a tally of seven goals and assists apiece.

One of the best defenders in the Eredivisie, Senesi, has been nicknamed ‘The Gladiator’ by the Feyenoord supporters. And his growth in Holland hasn’t gone unnoticed, with clubs across Europe taking note. The report states that Barcelona had made an enquiry for him earlier in the year, and now clubs from the Premier League and Serie A are interested.

West Ham United are believed to be one of the strongest admirers of the 24-year-old Argentine defender. The Hammers are in urgent need of reinforcement at the heart of the backline after seeing Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna get sidelined for extended periods. With David Moyes & co. competing for the top four and flying high in the UEFA Europa League, quality depth in the squad is important.

With Issa Diop and Craig Dawson left as the only senior centre-backs, bringing in a new centre-half is a must for West Ham. There have been links to several defenders, most recently to Middlesbrough’s Paddy McNair, with Senesi also now emerging as a transfer target. However, they will have to compete with Manchester United and Tottenham for his signing.

Manchester United’s defence has been woeful this season, with Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire struggling a great deal. Eric Bailly has not been given many opportunities, while Raphael Varane has been dealing with constant injury problems. With Phil Jones not playing for over a year, a new defender like Senesi could be a good addition, but only if one of the current options is being offloaded.

As for Tottenham, they could do with a new central defender in January as the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez haven’t performed consistently enough while Cristian Romero has also had a stop-start debut campaign in England. With Joe Rodon set to leave in January, Antonio Conte is keen to strengthen his defence, leading to links with several centre-backs, including Senesi.

Apart from West Ham, Manchester United and Tottenham, Leeds United and Newcastle have also been keeping tabs on the 24-year-old. And, it remains to be seen if any of them make a move to sign Senesi in the January window or decide to wait till the summer.
