Liverpool have handed a trial to Toronto FC’s youth prodigy Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty, who had recently trained with Arsenal.
According to American football journalist Tom Bogert, Liverpool have welcomed young prodigy Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty to their training facility. They have decided to hand the Toronto FC youngster an opportunity to prove himself before potentially offering a professional deal when he turns 18.
A native of Ontario, Marshall-Rutty is a winger by trade, who usually favours playing on the right. He is a sleek operator who can make life difficult for the opposition defenders with his explosive pace and dribbling prowess. Standing at just 1.65m, his low centre of gravity makes him very effective in squeezing through tight spaces.
The 17-year-old youngster began his youth career in the Toronto FC academy before being handed a promotion to the senior side at the start of 2020. While football in the United States was halted due to the pandemic, he made quite an impression with his performances in the MLS this year.
Marshall-Rutty managed to muster eleven appearances for Toronto FC, and although his tally of just one assist might not seem particularly eye-catching, the player certainly has something to offer. It is why he is currently gaining experience in Europe by training with a few teams in the off-season.

The 17-year-old has already completed his training at Arsenal, who had also notably handed a trial to another budding MLS youngster in Dantouma Toure. In an attempt to further enhance his skills, Marshall-Rutty is now expected to train with Liverpool.
The Reds have enjoyed an excellent start to their Premier League campaign so far, with a perfect record in the UEFA Champions League and an equally brilliant tally in the Premier League. But they have often appeared overly reliant on the services of the front three, largely due to their injury of Roberto Firmino and the lack of depth in the offensive unit.
While Marshall-Rutty is unlikely to be considered a first-team material anytime soon, making an impression in his Liverpool trial may hand him an opportunity to land a professional contract with the Merseyside giants.
Tom Bogert has already suggested that the 17-year-old has attracted a lot of interest, with multiple clubs hoping to snap him up in a professional deal before he turns 18 next summer.
