Arsenal have joined Barcelona and Newcastle United in the chase for FC Basel forward Arthur Cabral, with a January move possible.

According to Jeunes Footeux, Arsenal have entered the chase for FC Basel forward Arthur Cabral. There are plenty of other top clubs vying for the Brazilian’s signature as the race for the striker heats up.

Mikel Arteta will be a busy man alongside technical director Edu to figure out recruits for the next windows. Arsenal are expected to sign forward players at the next available opportunity, although the ideal time would have been next summer when they could start fresh with incoming stars.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah look set to depart at the end of the current season when their contracts expire. Arteta might urge the club to keep at least one of the duo, with the Frenchman, the likely candidate to get an extension, although there has been no indication whatsoever about it.

To complicate matters, the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is thrown into doubt after Arsenal stripped the striker of the captain’s armband earlier this week. The Gabon forward is open on the move to Barcelona, although, at this stage, there is nothing concrete on that front.

The Gunners have had links to Dusan Vlahovic, who reportedly doesn’t fancy a move to the Emirates, while Jonathan David and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are also mentioned.

The latest name to be inscribed into Arsenal’s transfer shortlist is Arthur Cabral. The Basel forward is attracting plenty of interest from many clubs across England and Spain. The Brazilian has been in scintillating form this term, which has led teams to form a queue for his signature.

Barcelona recently entered the market for the striker as they look to replace Sergio Aguero, who announced his retirement. Xavi is keen on a player he can develop under his wings to become a key part of the side for years to come. The interest in Cabral is natural considering his style of play and the numbers he has posted this term.

Cabral’s 27 goals across all competitions this season have forced clubs to notice his talents. Newcastle United are also keen on the striker, although their status as relegation battlers will put the Brazilian off as they cannot guarantee Premier League football next season.

As for Arsenal, they might find Cabral suited for Arteta’s style, while the existing Brazilians in the squad could make him comfortable. At 23, he also fits into the club’s transfer policy of signing up and coming stars, although it remains to be seen what sort of fee Basel demand for their star man, who has a contract until 2023.
