Gavi is reportedly weighing up leaving Barcelona to join Liverpool, with the Reds prepared to pay €50 million to sign the Spanish prodigy.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Gavi is attracted by the idea of playing under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. The Reds are ready to trigger the Spanish prodigy’s €50 million to prise him away from Barcelona, with a move in the January transfer window not ruled out.

Gavi has taken no time to establish himself as a key figure for Barcelona, despite being only 17 years old. Fast-tracked into the first-team setup following the Blaugrana’s failure to fill the void left by the departures of Ilaix Moriba and Miralem Pjanic, the teenage prodigy has taken everyone by surprise with the maturity he has displayed on the pitch.

At the same time, the 17-year-old has also been establishing himself as a regular for the Spanish national side after making his debut a few months ago. The player has already turned out 20 times for Barcelona this season, chipping in with two assists along the way. However, Gavi’s time at Camp Nou could be drawing to a close already, with Liverpool keen on signing him.

The interest from Liverpool makes sense, considering they chose not to replace Georginio Wijnaldum following his move to Paris Saint-Germain. Instead, Harvey Elliott was promoted as a midfield prospect, with the prodigious Englishman impressing a great deal before sustaining an ankle injury.

However, James Milner is in the twilight of his career, while Jordan Henderson is on the wrong side of 30. So, it behoves Liverpool to lay down a succession plan for Milner while also being ready to phase Henderson out in a few years. To that end, Gavi is a viable target for the Reds, who could have a long-term solution in midfield as a result.

Recent reports have also claimed that the Premier League heavyweights are prepared to trigger his €50 million release clause to snap him up. And according to El Nacional, Liverpool could swoop Gavi away from Barcelona as early as January, with the 17-year-old prodigy attracted by the idea of joining the Merseyside club.

For their part, the Catalan giants are eager to secure the long-term future of the 17-year-old while bolstering the release clause significantly. However, with Liverpool ready to move quickly for him, it remains to be seen if Barcelona will have enough time to secure Gavi’s long-term future.
