Premier League newcomers Brentford have reportedly made contact with Portuguese side SC Braga for Francisco Moura.
According to The Sun, Premier League new boys, Brentford are in contact with SC Braga regarding a January move for their wonderkid Francisco Moura.
The 22-year-old came through the ranks at the Portuguese outfit, making his Primeira Liga debut in the 2020/21 season. He has since stacked up 25 appearances for Os Arcebispos, scoring twice and assisting one more. While he does not have much experience at the top level, there are signs that he could explode into a dependable player in the years to come.
Moura was in fact on his way to Barcelona before an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury cut short his season last time around. It has, however, worked out well for the Bees who can now swoop in and secure the 22-year-old for a bargain price.
Moura’s contract at Braga runs until 2026 and he also has a release clause worth £25 million. Brentford officials, for their part, have continued to scout the player in person and believe they can land him for a price below the release clause. Such a move would represent good business for the Londoners, who are looking to establish themselves as top-flight mainstays.
Thomas Frank’s side have enjoyed a decent start to life in the Premier League. They are currently in the tenth spot but could be dragged down into the relegation dogfight if a series of results don’t go their way. It is thus imperative that they reinforce their squad when they get the opportunity.
The Bees have preferred a three-man defensive system that has at the very least given us some exciting games. The wing-backs have a key role to play in the system and Brentford appear keen to bolster their options in those positions in the January transfer window.
A left-back, Moura is capable of playing anywhere along the left flank. Coupled with Brentford’s interest in Gremio right-back, Vanderson, it is clear to see where the Premier League side’s priorities lie in the winter window.
Bringing in both players would considerably boost key positions in the Brentford setup. If all goes according to plan, they could go on to play a major role in ensuring the team stays up this season.
