AS Roma are reportedly interested in signing Alvaro Odriozola in a €20 million deal, with Real Madrid open to selling him.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Alvaro Odriozola is the subject of interest from AS Roma over a move in next summer’s transfer window. The Serie A giants are ready to offer €20 million to secure the services of the 26-year-old defender, with Real Madrid open to selling him.

Alvaro Odriozola joined Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in July 2018, arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu, viewed as a long-term successor for Dani Carvajal. However, the Spanish international has failed to get going at Real Madrid, with opportunities coming few and far between.

The 26-year-old did not feature much on a six-month loan at Bayern Munich either. And upon Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as the new Real Madrid manager, his fate was sealed in the summer. As a result, Odriozola joined Fiorentina on a season-long deal, and he has rediscovered his best touch at the Serie A club.

Odriozola has made 13 Serie A appearances this season, chipping in with one assist in the process. The player’s progress at Fiorentina has not gone unnoticed, with several clubs setting their sights on him, including AS Roma.

Odriozola is not the first Real Madrid player to be linked with AS Roma, with Nacho, Luka Jovic and Lucas Vazquez also on their radar. The interest in Odriozola makes sense amid Jose Mourinho’s frustrations with several squad members.

As far as the right-back slot is concerned, Rick Karsdorp has been heavily linked with a possible departure from Roma, while Davide Santon has blown hot and cold. So, it is clear why the Serie A giants are keen on signing Odriozola, with a €20 million bid set to be tabled for Real Madrid’s consideration.

For their part, the Merengues are open to selling Odriozola, with several right-backs, including Gonzalo Montiel, on their radar. However, Roma will have to fend off competition from clubs like Athletic Bilbao and Fiorentina, and it remains to be seen if the 26-year-old’s adventure in Serie A continues next summer, albeit with a move to Stadio Olimpico.
