Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca has emerged as a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur for next summer.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Gianluca Scamacca. They are one of the few English clubs that have taken a liking for the Sassuolo forward and are closely monitoring his progress in the Serie A.
The report goes on to suggest that Scamacca has been identified as a potential alternative for Dusan Vlahovic. The Fiorentina forward remains a priority target for the club’s sporting director, Fabio Paratici. But the Italian is aware of the stiff competition he is set to face in the pursuit of the tall Serb, especially with Manchester City already considering an €85 million bid.
As a result, Spurs have now set their sights on Scamacca. A native of Rome, the young forward has been a part of the Sassuolo team since 2017. But after various loan spells at clubs like Cremonese, PEC Zwolle and Ascoli, he found his Serie A breakthrough last season with Genoa, scoring eight goals in 27 appearances.
Scamacca’s performances at Genoa compelled Sassuolo to give him an opportunity to perform for the senior side this season. With five goals in 17 league matches, the 22-year-old might not fall in the same category as someone like Vlahovic.
But many believe the Italian can reach the same heights with a bit more experience at the highest level of football. Standing at 1.95m, the youngster already has an impressive physique, and with a little more sharpness in front of goal, he could make a strong case for being one of the country’s most promising goalscoring prospects.
Scamacca’s rapid rise to prominence hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Tottenham now considering him as a potential replacement for Harry Kane. The English international is expected to move on in the summer amid interest from Manchester City.
During his time at Inter Milan, Antonio Conte had enjoyed immense success with a target man like Romelu Lukaku. Paratici will be hoping that his countryman has a similar level of success with Scamacca, whose low price tag also makes him an attractive option for the Lilywhites.
However, due to his lack of experience at the highest level of football, the 22-year-old must offer more productivity during the remainder of the campaign and finish the season on a strong note if he wants to be considered as an option by Tottenham for next season.
He’s not a bad striker but he’s not in the same league as Vlahovic, Daniel Levy needs to be bold in this transfer window if he really wants at least fourth spot this season, we need the top quality signings such as Vlahovic, De Ligt and Kessie and also possibly Max Aarons. Those four signings would put us in pole position for that last Champions league space. Having been in this position a few times over the last few years I don’t hold out too much hope of Levy doing what is needed and I’m pretty sure we will be left short once again. If ENIC and Levy aren’t prepared to spend the money needed then sell to someone who will, 20 years of doing things Levy’s way hasn’t worked, It’s the first sign of madness, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
