Bayern Munich have reportedly registered an interest in Barcelona contract rebel Ousmane Dembele as a possible replacement for Kingsley Coman.

According to BILD’s Christian Falk, Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele has emerged as a transfer target for German champions Ousmane Dembele as an option to replace their own contract rebel, Kinglsey Coman.

Dembele has been with Barcelona since 2017, having arrived from German giants Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth over €130 million, including bonuses. However, his time at Camp Nou has been plagued by injuries and inconsistencies, as a result of which he has failed to live up to the expectations that came with his massive transfer fee.

Dembele has had yet another injury-plagued season this time out and has made just six appearances across all competitions, with only two of them being from the start. The Frenchman’s current contract with the Blaugrana ends in the summer, and talks over a new deal have not proven fruitful as the 24-year-old entertains lucrative offers from the Premier League.

Indeed, Newcastle United are ready to hand Dembele a bumper contract while Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have made an approach for his signing. Now, Bayern Munich have also thrown their hat in the ring to sign the former Borussia Dortmund winger.

The German record champions are worried over the future of star winger Kingsley Coman, whose contract with the Bavarian giants runs out in eighteen months. Much like with Barcelona and Dembele, Bayern Munich also have been unable to achieve success in contract talks with their French speedster thus far, even though he has previously stated that he wishes to sign a new deal with the club.

Coman will be entering the final year of his deal at the end of the season, at which point Bayern may be forced to sell him or risk losing him for nothing in 2023. The ex-Juventus winger has no shortage of suitors either, with Barcelona themselves expressing an interest in his services.

Should the situation come to that and Bayern are forced to sell Coman, Die Roten want to replace him with Dembele. The 24-year-old would be a player of a very similar profile to Coman, has tasted success in Germany in the past and would arrive free of cost as his contract is expiring. These aspects make the Barcelona star an attractive prospect for Julian Nagelsmann & co. Whether they make a move for the Frenchman remains to be seen.
