Bayern Munich will reportedly need to pay €70 million to prise Marc-Andre ter Stegen away from Barcelona next summer.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Barcelona will be demanding a sum of €70 million to offload Marc-Andre ter Stegen in next summer’s transfer window. The 29-year-old goalkeeper is being courted by Bayern Munich, having been eyed as a long-term successor for Manuel Neuer.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world since joining Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach in July 2014. After initially being restricted solely to outings in Europe and cup competitions, the German international has been the firm first-choice goalkeeper for the Blaugrana in the last half a dozen years.

To date, ter Stegen has turned out 297 times for Barcelona, keeping 120 clean sheets in the process. However, the 29-year-old’s performances have left a lot to be desired in the last year, which has forced Barcelona to weigh up the possibility of selling him. And there is no shortage of suitors in the player’s pursuit, with Bayern Munich one of the prospective suitors.

The interest from Bayern Munich is understandable, considering Manuel Neuer is in the twilight of his career and inching closer to retirement. In fact, the report by El Nacional suggests that the goalkeeping legend could hang up his gloves at the end of the ongoing season, which is why the Bavarian giants are keen on signing a goalkeeper.

To that end, ter Stegen is a viable target for Bayern Munich, with Barcelona’s stance over selling him coming as a major boost for them. However, the 29-year-old German star will not come cheap, as Barcelona will be demanding around €70 million in exchange for his services.

The Catalan heavyweights are eager to cash in on ter Stegen to balance their books, with his latest disastrous performance, coincidentally against Bayern Munich, strengthening their resolve to sell him. For his part, the shot-stopper is also open to leaving Barcelona in favour of joining a club that can guarantee him trophies.

So, the stars could be aligning perfectly for ter Stegen, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. However, it is unclear whether Bayern will be prepared to shell out €70 million to secure the services of the 29-year-old, and it remains to be seen if a big-money transfer sees the light of the day next summer.
