Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly prepared to fork out €80 million for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes.

According to El Nacional, Liverpool are ready to step up their efforts to sign Rodrygo Goes. The Real Madrid winger has emerged as a top target for Jurgen Klopp, who is determined to bolster his side’s attacking options in the January transfer window.

The Reds were linked with a swoop for Rodrygo in the summer, but their €60 million offer was rebuffed by Real Madrid. However, it appears they could return to the market for the Brazilian in January, and this time around, the club is prepared to fork out as much as €80 million.

Liverpool’s interest in the winger stems from their lack of depth in the attacking department. Roberto Firmino’s injury this season has forced them to be far too reliant on the offensive trifecta of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota. And while the three attackers have done very well, the club needs to prepare a contingency plan.

Salah is already facing an uncertain future at the club due to his contractual situation that has kept clubs like Real Madrid on alert. On top of that, the Egyptian wizard and Mane are set to miss the chunk of early 2022 due to their impending participation at the Africa Cup of Nations, thus accentuating the need for a new wide player in January.

Rodrygo fits the bill well, having shown immense potential since joining Real Madrid back in 2019. He has already notched up 78 competitive appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing 14 assists. His status in the first-team has been elevated especially under Carlo Ancelotti, with the forward featuring in 14 league games so far this campaign.

The Brazilian’s pace on the break, coupled with his dribbling prowess, have convinced Real Madrid that he can be a massive asset for the club in the future, perhaps even move ahead of Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard in the pecking order.

However, Los Blancos are not willing to rule out a potential sale either, knowing his departure could serve as a massive financial boost for the club. It could be particularly useful in the pursuit of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, although the latter has also been linked with a move to Anfield.

Rodrygo himself is now considering a move away from the Bernabeu, knowing the potential arrival of Mbappe could hamper his first-team opportunities. A move to Liverpool, in that regard, could thus be a logical option for the Brazilian.
