Premier League outfit West Ham United are set to make a January move to sign Torino’s rising star Gleison Bremer.

According to Calciomercato.it, West Ham are desperate for defensive reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window. They are already scouring the market for potential options, with a greater emphasis on Serie A, with Gleison Bremer of Torino emerging as a target.

The Hammers are considering a January move for the Torino centre-back, who has been established as one of the best in the league lately. The Brazilian, after all, has been linked with a move to multiple clubs across Europe this season, including West Ham’s local league rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, and Italian giants Napoli.

West Ham’s desperation of signing the young centre-back stems from their apparent injury crisis in the defensive department. One of the surprise packages in the ongoing Premier League this season, the club from London was handed an early blow when Angelo Ogbonna picked up a serious knee injury that has ruled him out for a considerable period.

But lately, they were beset by the injury of new signing Kurt Zouma. The Frenchman picked up a hamstring problem and has been ruled out for at least 12 weeks, effectively leaving David Moyes devoid of reliable options in central defence. As a result, the former Manchester United boss has now set his sights on Gleison Bremer.

Formerly of Atletico Mineiro, the Brazilian has enjoyed a solid track record at Torino since joining the club in 2018. He has featured in almost 100 competitive appearances for the club, becoming a defensive lynchpin alongside the likes of Koffi Djidji and Alessandro Buongiorno.

During his time in Turin, Bremer has made an impression with his dogged defensive qualities and firm leadership that could make him a useful figure at West Ham. He is unlikely to cost a fortune either, with his current contract at Torino expiring in 2023. Nevertheless, the Hammers have no shortage of alternatives in case they do miss out on the 24-year-old next month.

They have been linked with a move for Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips while Bournemouth’s rising star Lloyd Kelly is also an option. Moyes, though, is likely to favour Bremer, who offers more experience and better skill-set, although West Ham must act swiftly if they are to get their hands on the Brazilian in January.
