Eredivisie champions Ajax are eyeing a January swoop for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

According to a recent report from Manchester Evening News, Ajax are interested in securing a deal for Dean Henderson. The Dutch champions have been tracking the goalkeeper for quite some time and are now aiming to sign him up on a potential loan deal in the upcoming January transfer window.

Ajax had held talks with Manchester United regarding the transfer while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge. They are now waiting to see if the club’s stance on the goalkeeper changes under the leadership of the newly-appointed interim manager, Ralf Rangnick.

Henderson is open to leaving Old Trafford on a six to 18-month loan deal. But he also remains keen on impressing new coach Rangnick after struggling with a lack of game-time ever since his return to Old Trafford last year.

Indeed, the Englishman has been unfortunate to have had very few chances to prove himself at United. He did have a nice spell of games earlier in the year when de Gea was on leave. But the Spaniard once again assumed the number one role in the new season, and unlike last season, the former Atletico Madrid ace has been top form.

It has resulted in Henderson featuring in just one competitive match this season. His struggle at Old Trafford has alerted some major clubs across Europe, including FC Barcelona. It seems the Catalans are scouting the United star as a potential long-term replacement for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has endured a fall from grace lately.

Other than Barcelona, Inter Milan have been in contention to sign the 24-year-old, most likely as a direct replacement for the ageing Samir Handanovic. Even Premier League clubs West Ham and Newcastle United are keen on securing his services, effectively making him one of the most in-demand goalkeepers in England. However, the interest from Ajax is particularly interesting.

It appears the Dutch camp rate Henderson highly due to his skill and the potential he brings to the table. As such, they are prepared to make him a direct replacement for Andre Onana, who is set for an exit, potentially in January, after serving a long suspension throughout most of 2021.

Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in the services of the Cameroonian international, whose departure could allow Henderson the opportunity to make a name for himself at Ajax after a difficult 18-month spell at Old Trafford. But it remains to be seen whether the United camp, now led by Rangnick, sanctions the loan deal.
