Tottenham Hotspur are leading Everton and AS Roma in the race to sign Norwich City starlet Max Aarons.

A recent report from Calciomercato.it has offered an update on the future of Max Aarons. The young right-back’s days at Norwich City could be numbered amid interest from a host of clubs across Europe, including AS Roma.

But the Italian giants are joined by Tottenham and Everton in the race to sign the Englishman, who will be available for a fee of €22 million. The report suggests Spurs have the edge in the pursuit, although all the other suitors are expected to step up their efforts sooner or later.

A homegrown product of the Norwich City academy, Aarons has been around the blocks for over three seasons. He made his breakthrough in the Championship during the 2018/19 campaign, before an impressive season in the Premier League in 2019/20 saw him establish himself as one of the most talented young right-backs in the country.

However, after over three and a half years of service and 145 appearances, it might be time for the 21-year-old to pack his bags and take the next step in his career. He has no shortage of admirers either, with Tottenham Hotspur and Everton emerging as potential destinations. He was also linked with a move to Newcastle United earlier this month, while AS Roma and Borussia Dortmund are involved in the race as well.

Tottenham’s interest in Aarons is slightly perplexing as they did bring in a new right-back in the form of Emerson Royal in the summer. But it appears new manager Antonio Conte is not happy with the backup options, including Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty.

A move to Everton, though, might make a lot more sense for the Norwich City youngster. The Toffees, currently struggling on the wrong end of the league table, are in the market for a new right-back as they look to find reliable alternatives for Seamus Coleman.

Rafael Benitez’s team has already sounded out Arsenal over a potential move for Calum Chambers, while LOSC Lille starlet Zeki Celik has been in the fray as well. But in Aarons, they could land themselves a young, talented defender brimming with potential while also offering a vast experience in English football.

However, in order to afford the €22 million required to sign Aarons, Everton may have to part ways with a few of their players. Interestingly, they are reportedly open to a sale for Jordan Pickford, who is among the goalkeepers targeted by Tottenham Hotspur. We might be in for a juicy transfer saga as both these giants look to acquire the services of the 21-year-old next month.
