Spanish prodigy Gavi is reportedly set to be offered a lucrative €6 million-a-year contract by Chelsea to leave Barcelona.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Chelsea are stepping up their efforts to sign Gavi in a future transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights are preparing a bumper contract offer for the Barcelona prodigy, with a €6 million-a-year deal set to be tabled by the Blues.

Gavi joined Barcelona’s famed academy La Masia from Real Betis in July 2015 before making swift progress through the ranks in the club’s youth setup. However, many were left surprised when he was handed his first-team debut at the onset of the ongoing season, as he is only 17 years old.

But Gavi has shown maturity beyond his years in the opportunities afforded to him, making 18 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona this season. The teenage prodigy’s progress has helped him cement his place as a regular for the Blaugrana, usurping Riqui Puig and Philippe Coutinho in the process. And it is hardly surprising that several clubs, including Chelsea, are keen on signing the midfield prodigy.

The interest from Chelsea is understandable, considering N’Golo Kante has had his fair share of fitness issues in recent years. In addition, there is uncertainty surrounding the future of Ross Barkley, who is only an emergency option for Thomas Tuchel.

There has also been speculation surrounding Jorginho, with recent reports claiming that a return to Italy could be on the cards for the UEFA Euro 2020 winner. To that end, Gavi is a viable target for Chelsea, and the Barcelona prodigy could be a long-term solution in the middle of the park for the Blues.

Reports have also claimed that the Premier League heavyweights are prepared to trigger the €50 million release clause in his Barcelona contract. For their part, the Catalan giants are trying to secure the long-term future of the 17-year-old and bump up his exit clause in the process.

However, Chelsea are ready to offer a lucrative €6 million-a-year contract to Gavi to tempt him to call it quits at Barcelona while also giving him the prospect of being a part of a better sporting project. However, apart from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the Barcelona prodigy. It remains to be seen if the Blaugrana can keep hold of the precocious talent for long.
