Villarreal have reportedly rebuffed the opportunity to sign Jesus Vallejo, who has been left in the lurch at Real Madrid.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Jesus Vallejo is struggling to sort his future out, with Villarreal rejecting the chance to sign him. However, Real Madrid would not mind keeping hold of the 24-year-old if they cannot find him a buyer.

Jesus Vallejo joined Real Madrid from Real Zaragoza in July 2015 at the budding age of 18, having been appointed as Los Manos’ club captain aged 17. However, the move to Real Madrid has not panned out as envisioned for the Spanish defender, who has struggled to carve out a place for himself in the first-team setup at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Vallejo’s best spells have come at Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2016/17 season and Granada from January 2020 to the end of last season. However, since returning to Real Madrid this past summer, the 24-year-old has been a bit-part player and has managed only 10 minutes of action this term.

Left in limbo at Real Madrid, Vallejo needs to leave the club on a permanent transfer to resurrect his stuttering career, especially considering the La Liga heavyweights have been linked with several centre-backs. And the Spaniard was offered to Villarreal.

However, at El Madrigal, Vallejo would have likely been behind Pau Torres and Raul Albiol in the pecking order. And Unai Emery has no intention of snapping up the Real Madrid defender, especially with Aissa Mandi waiting in the wings to impress the Villarreal boss.

Interestingly, as per widespread reports, Torres has been heavily linked with Real Madrid in the past, although Los Blancos recently ended their interest in him. As for Vallejo, he has been left in the lurch following Villarreal’s decision not to take up the offer to sign him.

The 24-year-old has previously been linked with several other La Liga clubs, including Espanyol, Getafe and Real Betis, and Real Madrid would hope one of them comes up with an offer for the Spanish defender. However, if they cannot offload Vallejo, Real Madrid would not mind keeping hold of him as a backup option. It remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
