Juventus want to add a reliable striker in January to improve their fortunes and have identified Manchester United ace Edinson Cavani as a target.

According to Tuttosport, Juventus would prefer to add a suitable goalscorer in the January window with Edinson Cavani’s name mentioned in recent reports. The Manchester United man’s experience in Italy could be the catalyst in their preference of the Uruguayan.

Juventus have not had the best of starts to their current campaign. They currently sit well outside Champions League places and remain way behind the top three teams in the Italian league. Massimiliano Allegri has had to deal with plenty of problems, including fixing a leaky defence and fine-tuning the attack.

The manager has been unable to solve any of those issues, as Juventus remain one of the least prolific sides among the big teams in Italy and keep conceding a high number of goals. The Turin side hopes to rectify the attacking problem through the transfer window in January to save their season on all fronts.

It’s unprecedented to think of Juventus playing in the Europa League or the Conference League next season. They understandably are looking for an opportunity to bring in another reliable goalscorer to improve their prospects, as the likes of Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata have proved ineffective.

They sorely miss Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals in hindsight, and the problems are evident, with Juve having scored 20 league all season. To put it in perspective, Serie A strikers such as Duvan Zapata, Ciro Immobile and Dusan Vlahovic all have more individual goals than the entire Juventus attack put together.

They have a few experienced strikers in mind to solve their issues, although Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic remains their primary target. The Serbian might be out of their reach financially, and hence they might turn their attention towards a much cheaper alternative.

Barcelona target Edinson Cavani’s name has been mentioned alongside Mauro Icardi. The former and current PSG strikers are well known in the Italian circles, having spent a considerable time in their careers in Serie A. The Uruguayan, in particular, could be an immediate target considering his difficult time at Manchester United.

Cavani has played just over 200 minutes for Manchester United in the Premier League this season, which have come across five appearances. The striker has been affected by the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has usurped his game-time. Even with the arrival of Ralf Rangnick, Cavani’s situation could remain the same as Ronaldo seems to have cemented his place in the side.

At best, the Uruguayan could get game time off the bench, as Manchester United have several other attacking options. Cavani might see the interest from Juventus as an opportunity to play regularly. He has plenty of options to choose from, especially after significant interest from Spanish clubs. He might be keen on moving to Barcelona, while there is also interest from Atletico Madrid.

However, a move back to Italy could also be considered, as Juventus see him as a short term fix to their current problems. He will also not cost much in fees as his contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the season.
