Manchester City are reportedly ready to pounce on Borussia Monchengladbach’s situation with midfielder Denis Zakaria, with a January move on the cards.

According to Transfer Market Web, Manchester City are plotting a January move for Denis Zakaria, who is considered an ideal player to play under Pep Guardiola. The Swiss midfielder is running down his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach, with the Premier League champions preparing a cut-price January move.

Dennis Zakaria has come to a stage in his career where he feels the qualities of a bigger club than Borussia Monchengladbach might suit him more. With his contract expiring in the summer, the 25-year-old Swiss midfielder has firmly put himself in the market and rejected the advancements of the Bundesliga side over a new deal.

Despite widespread interest from several European clubs. including Real Madrid, Zakaria could move to England, where the competition is high, and the league holds plenty of potential. A variety of clubs in England have firm interest in the midfielder, whose qualities could come in good use at some of these teams.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in the Swiss star, as they require a midfielder to fill the void left by the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum. The Reds might be angling to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season, although the situation might change if rivals decide to buy him outright in the January window itself.

Arsenal are also keeping tabs and could lure the 25-year-old defensive midfielder, as his qualities are lacking over at the Emirates. However, Mikel Arteta, too, might like to have him on board on a free transfer and focus on spending big on a new striker.

That aside, Manchester City are the latest club to be named among the suitors. The report suggests the Premier League champions might look to make an offer to Borussia Monchengladbach in January, something the Bundesliga club might accept rather than see one of their important stars leave on a free transfer.

The move could be on a cut-price fee. The idea could be to replace Fernandinho, who might be coming to the end of his time at the Etihad. Manchester City might look to make the best of the opportunity and make a reasonable offer to get ahead of their competition.

However, with movements like these, other clubs could also accelerate their plans, and a transfer battle for the Swiss midfielder could ensue next month. It remains to be seen what sort of an offer Manchester City make for the midfielder. They might decide to offer decent money to blow away their competition as Zakaria seems like the star they could make do with.
