Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

A recent report from The Sun has offered an update on the future of Jordan Pickford. It appears Everton are now prepared to cash in on their star goalkeeper in the January transfer window in order to raise funds for their major targets. Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in his services.

Everton, though, have no intention of selling their star player for cheap. They are holding out for a fee of £30 million to recoup the amount they had spent back in 2017. Rafael Benitez considers the sale vital as he looks to fund moves for his top targets in the winter transfer window and strengthen his squad after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Indeed, the Toffees are dawdling at 15th in the league table, having collected only 15 points in 14 matches. They are currently on an eight-game winless run, with their last victory coming against lowly Norwich City back in September. During this period, Everton have looked shaky at the back, with goalkeeper Pickford among the players struggling to offer the consistency required to get back to winning ways.

Nevertheless, the English international is highly regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the country, with almost 200 appearances in the Premier League. He is, in fact, the first-choice goalkeeper for the English national team and had played a key role in the nation’s UEFA Euro 2020 and FIFA World Cup 2018 campaigns.

Pickford’s unquestionable experience and performances at the highest level of football have not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham among the clubs interested in acquiring his services.

The North London giants are believed to be in the market for a new goalkeeper amid uncertainties over the long-term future of Hugo Lloris. The club also has doubts over the quality of summer signing Pierluigi Gollini, thus accentuating the need for a new shot-stopper who can replace Lloris in the long term.

Pickford fits the bill perfectly due to his experience and pedigree at the highest level. However, his £30 million price tag, coupled with a £100,000-a-week salary, could be an obstacle for the Tottenham.

Fortunately for Antonio Conte, though, he has no shortage of alternatives, with Tottenham also being linked with a move for Manchester United outcast Dean Henderson. The former Sheffield United starlet could be a more cost-effective alternative for Pickford, although Tottenham are involved in the race to sign the cheapest option available in the market, in the form of Andre Onana.
