Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to offer €50 million to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, a target for Real Madrid.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Newcastle United have stepped up their efforts to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco in the January transfer window. The Magpies are ready to pay up to €50 million to sign the AS Monaco midfielder, who is also being courted by Real Madrid.

Aurelien Tchouameni has become one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. Widely rated among the best players in Ligue 1, the French international has become a regular for club and country this season.

To date, the 21-year-old has made 67 appearances for Monaco, chipping in with five goals and four assists in the process. His progress has not gone unnoticed either, with some of the biggest clubs in the world keen on signing him. And two of his prospective suitors are Real Madrid and Newcastle United.

The interest from Real Madrid makes sense, considering Casemiro is approaching the final phase of his career while also being linked with several marquee clubs in Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain. Hence, Real Madrid must bring in a defensive midfielder who can take the burden off Casemiro at the very least, if not replace him entirely.

To that end, Tchouameni is a viable target for Real Madrid, who face stiff competition from Newcastle United in his pursuit. The Magpies’ eagerness to secure the services of the 21-year-old is not without reason either.

Following the takeover by the Public Investment Fund, Newcastle United’s squad overhaul is one of the most anticipated events in the Premier League. To that end, the Tyneside club has been linked with a gamut of players across Europe, even as they battle hard to retain their Premier League status.

Tchouameni is one of the midfielders on Newcastle’s radar, and the Magpies are now ready to launch the offensive for him. To that end, they are prepared to offer up to €50 million to sign him from AS Monaco in January, which has put Real Madrid in a spot of bother, as it has been suggested that Los Blancos might only make their move next summer.

In addition, Tchouameni is also considering a move to Newcastle, as he believes he could be the leading figure in their project instead of Real Madrid, where he will first need to displace Casemiro to become a regular. So, it remains to be seen if Newcastle can beat Real Madrid to the AS Monaco midfielder’s signature this winter or if he stays put at the Ligue 1 club instead.
