Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly among the clubs weighing up a move for Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could soon be deemed surplus to requirements at Arsenal. The Gunners’ captain does not have any shortage of suitors, though, with Barcelona and Real Madrid among the contenders for his signature.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 and made an instant impact at the club. The 32-year-old shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in his first full season. However, his form has been on the wane since then.

The Gabonese striker has particularly been disappointing since he signed a bumper new contract with Arsenal last year. This season, Aubameyang has only four goals and one assist in 13 Premier League appearances, and the north Londoners are looking to cash in on their captain after getting frustrated with his inconsistencies. Aubameyang has plenty of suitors, though, with Barcelona and Real Madrid keen on signing him.

The interest from Barcelona is understandable, considering Sergio Aguero is sidelined for the foreseeable future due to a heart condition. While widespread reports initially speculated that Aguero might have to retire, those suggestions have been put to rest. However, the Argentine will require specific treatment for a considerable period, so Barcelona must sign a striker.

On the other hand, Real Madrid’s need for a striker has been well documented despite the brilliant performances of Karim Benzema. The Frenchman is in the form of his life and has gone from strength to strength in recent years. However, with Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz likely to exit the Bernabeu at the earliest opportunity, signing someone like Aubameyang could be a step in the right direction.

Apart from Barcelona and Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid are also keen on signing the Arsenal captain. Interestingly, most of Aubameyang’s suitors have also been linked with Arsenal teammate Alexandre Lacazette, with his preferred destination mooted to be Atletico Madrid.

As for Aubameyang, his situation at Arsenal is increasingly likely to become untenable soon. So, it will be interesting to see if any of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan firm up their interest in him and launch the offensive for him in one of the upcoming transfer windows.
