Real Madrid are reportedly willing to shell out €40 million to secure the services of Bayern Munich goal machine Robert Lewandowski in the summer transfer window.

According to a report from El Nacional, Real Madrid are looking at Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski as a cost-effective alternative for primary target Erling Haaland and would be willing to pay €40 million for the Poland international.

Haaland is a man in demand heading into 2022, with almost every top club across Europe keen on signing the 21-year-old from Borussia Dortmund. Real Madrid, too, are among those chasing the Norwegian international but are aware that there is a possibility that they could miss out on his signature due to the intense competition and the fee that he is likely to command.

In case that happens, the Spanish capital outfit have identified Robert Lewandowski as their next best bet to bolster their attacking unit in the summer of 2022. The 33-year-old is one of the most feared strikers on the planet, with his seven-and-a-half-year stint with Bayern Munich bringing a lot of success individually and for the team.

In 349 appearances for the Bavarian giants, Lewandowski has plundered 319 goals and set up 67 more. Despite having turned 33, the former Lech Poznan ace has shown no signs of slowing down, having already banged in 25 goals from just 20 matches across all competitions in the ongoing campaign.

Lewandowski’s contract with Bayern Munich expires in the summer of 2023, and it is claimed that the veteran centre-forward has no intentions of signing an extension. Instead, the seasoned campaigner is ready to test himself at a new club, with a particular liking towards Real Madrid.

Now, it is believed that the Spanish capital outfit also want to add that the 33-year-old hitman to their ranks, with manager Carlo Ancelotti, keen on reuniting with him after having worked him at Bayern Munich in the past. Club president Florentino Perez is also believed to be an admirer of the Poland captain and is ready to fund a move for him next year.

It is claimed that Bayern Munich will demand a sum of €40 million for their main man to avoid losing him for free in 2023. And as per the report, Real Madrid are willing to meet that demand, despite his age, with Ancelotti even believing that Lewandowski and Karim Benzema are more than capable of operating alongside each other.

It remains to be seen if Real Madrid are successful in their endeavours to land Lewandowski from Bayern Munich next year or whether they are forced to look at other options.
