Newcastle United have reportedly tabled an offer of €40 million for Eden Hazard, but Real Madrid are holding out for a sum of €50 million for their superstar.

According to a report from El Nacional, Newcastle United have offered a sum of €40 million to Real Madrid for the signing of Belgian wing-wizard Eden Hazard, but have been told to up their offer.

Hazard completed his dream move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 after a hugely successful spell at Chelsea, during which he won two Premier League titles and two UEFA Europa League trophies. However, since his move to Spain, the 30-year-old has looked a shadow of his brilliant former self and has struggled with fitness problems as well.

From weight issues to recurring injury problems, Hazard has spent more time out on the sidelines in the Spanish capital than on the football pitch. To date, the ex-Lille star has managed just 54 appearances for Los Blancos, in which he has a paltry return of five goals and nine assists. To put things into perspective, he has missed over 60 games due to injury and fitness woes in his time at the club.

Hazard does not feature heavily in the plans of current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who has not been impressed by the Belgian’s performances when given a chance. As a result, the Merengues are looking to offload him at the earliest possible and recoup some of the money they invested in him.

No takers have emerged for the winger, though, given his recent decline in form, injury issues, age and massive wage demands. However, Newcastle United have shown keenness in signing Hazard as they look for a superstar player to spearhead their new project under the new ownership.

The Magpies are one of the richest clubs on the planet currently following their recent takeover, following which they have been linked with top stars across the globe to add to their budding project. However, for it to take off on the scale imagined, Newcastle will first need to stave off relegation from the Premier League.

Despite their situation, the Tyneside giants are pressing ahead with their lofty ambitions. They are believed to have made an offer of €40 million for Hazard. However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has demanded a fee of €50 million from the Premier League outfit, knowing that they are more than capable of shelling out the sum.

Even if they do that, Newcastle might face a challenge to convince Hazard to join the club, as he wants to move to a ‘top’ club if he were to leave Real Madrid. For now, it seems like the Tyneside outfit are trying to sign the Belgian, while his Real Madrid teammate, Marco Asensio, is also on the club’s radar.
