Bayern Munich are reportedly the latest club linked with a move for 17-year-old Barcelona prodigy Diego Almeida.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona defender Diego Almeida is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich over a possible move in a future transfer window. The 17-year-old prodigy is weighing up his future at Barcelona amid his desire to secure a quick pathway to first-team action.

Diego Almeida has progressed through the ranks rapidly since joining Barcelona’s famed academy La Masia a few years ago. Widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Spain and among the most promising youngsters to have been a part of the Blaugrana’s youth setup in recent years, the teenage prodigy has made quite an impression with his performance in defence.

Almeida is currently a part of Barcelona’s Juvenil A side and has also featured for Spain up until the under-18 level, although he is also eligible to play for Ecuador. As far as his future in club football is concerned, Almeida is not certain to stay put at Barcelona for years to come amid uncertainty over a clear pathway to first-team action.

As a result, there is a chance that Almeida could be on his way out of Barcelona in one of the two upcoming transfer windows. And there is no shortage of interest in the 17-year-old either, with Bayern Munich among his prospective suitors.

The Bundesliga giants are in a precarious situation over the long-term future of Niklas Sule, who has been heavily linked with Newcastle United, Chelsea and Real Madrid. With the German international’s Bayern Munich deal running out next summer, seeking a replacement is considered a priority for Die Roten.

However, while recent reports have claimed that Sule has been offered a new contract by Bayern Munich, doubts remain over his future at the Allianz Arena. So, it is not surprising that someone like Almeida has popped up on Bayern Munich’s radar, as the Barcelona prodigy could be a long-term replacement for Sule if he does leave the club.

However, the German giants are not the only big-name suitors pursuing the 17-year-old, who is also a target for Paris Saint-Germain. With Almeida unsure of staying put at Barcelona, a move to a European heavyweight could be on the cards, especially with the Blaugrana reportedly in the market for a centre-back.
