AC Milan and Inter Milan are reportedly keeping tabs on Manchester United and Brazil defender Alex Telles over a potential January deal.
According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United defender Alex Telles has emerged as a target for Serie A heavyweights AC Milan and Inter Milan ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
Telles signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2020, arriving from Portuguese giants FC Porto. Signed to provide competition to Luke Shaw in the left-back slot, the 28-year-old had the desired effect as the England international upped his game, while Telles himself was a reliable backup when the team needed.
To date, Telles has managed just 30 appearances for Manchester United, scoring one goal and setting up four more for his teammates. However, he has started just two Premier League matches this season, and it is now being claimed that both Inter Milan and AC Milan will look to capitalise on his lack of game-time by offering him a way out of Old Trafford.
AC Milan have the left-back slot sorted as things stand, with Theo Hernandez being the undisputed starter in the position while they have Fode Ballo-Toure to provide cover, having signed the Senegalese international only this past summer. So, their interest in signing Telles does come as a bit confounding.
As for Inter Milan, they have Ivan Perisic playing in the left wing-back slot this term, but the Croatian is out of contract at the end of the season and is eyeing a move to Tottenham Hotspur. While the reigning Serie A champions do have an able alternative in Federico Dimarco, they will need to replace Perisic should he leave.
Telles, to that end, can be a viable option to consider, with the Brazilian already having played for the Nerazzurri in the past. The report states that both the Milan clubs were keen on taking the Brazilian international on loan in the January transfer window.
However, Manchester United are likely to reject any approaches for Telles in the winter. Instead, a summer exit could be sanctioned as the Red Devils will have a better chance of recouping the £13.5 million fee they shelled out for his services last year. It remains to be seen if the 28-year-old returns to Italy in the summer of next year. For now, though, he looks set to stay at Old Trafford.
