Tottenham, Newcastle United and West Ham are among the clubs keeping close tabs on Lorenzo Insigne.

A recent report from Calciomercato.it has offered a detailed update on the situation of Lorenzo Insigne. The Italian has been under the spotlight lately as there have been no definite advances regarding his contract extension talks with Napoli. His current deal in Naples expires at the end of the new season, and the club have failed to offer an improved deal so far.

Their recent proposal of a deal worth €3.5 million per season was well below Insigne’s current salary of €5 million. And with the player open to any possibility, his contract situation has put a host of clubs on red alert, including the Premier League trifecta of Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and West Ham.

A native of Naples, Insigne is among the longest-serving players at Napoli. He has been playing for the Partenopei since his days as a youth footballer and has been a part of the senior side since January 2010. During his long 11 year spell at Napoli, he has featured in over 400 competitive matches, winning two Italian Cups and one Super Cup.

With 114 goals and 91 assists in all competition, coupled with over 50 caps for Italy, Insigne has also established himself as one of the country’s finest forwards. He had notably played a vital role in Italy’s triumph in Euro 2020, spearheading the offensive line using his experience, skill and leadership.

However, with Napoli yet to tie the winger down to a new contract, he has now emerged as a target for multiple clubs across Europe. Tottenham, for one, are hoping to snap him up in the near future, ideally for a free transfer next summer. Their director and head coach, Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte have tremendous influence in Italy.

They will be aware that Insigne’s potential arrival could serve as a major boost, especially as the club prepares itself for life without Manchester City target Harry Kane next season.

Insigne’s other listed suitors include West Ham, who are in the market for a new creative player in the final third. They are believed to be leading the race to sign Jesse Lingard in January, but the addition of someone as talented and experienced as Insigne would add a whole new dimension to the club’s offensive unit.

Newcastle United are another interesting candidate. Among the three, they are by far the most cash-rich club, not only in England but also in Europe. And it appears they have identified Insigne as the ideal man to spearhead their attack, starting from next season. Their immediate focus, though, is to survive relegation, which is why the Magpies have been linked with a move for a much lesser-known star in Arthur Cabral.

Insigne still has seven months left on his current contract. It will be interesting to see if Napoli can convince him to pen a new deal between now and the end of the season. If not, there appears to be no shortage of suitors for the Italian international.
