Christopher Nkunku has emerged as the latest player to be linked with a potential reunion with Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United.

According to SportBild journalist Christian Falk, Manchester United are set to enter the market for Christopher Nkunku. The RB Leipzig playmaker has emerged as one of the most in-demand prospects in the European market, thanks to a blistering start to the season. It has resulted in interest from almost all major clubs Europe and United have been no exception.

After the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as the new interim manager, the club is expected to raid RB Leipzig for multiple star players. Indeed, the 62-year-old mastermind is keen on a reunion with some of the talented players he has managed in the past, having already been linked with a swoop for Amadou Haidara recently.

It appears Nkunku has also joined the list of players wanted by Rangnick, having enjoyed a brilliant spell at Leipzig. Formerly of PSG, he was initially brought in at RBL by the German tactician in the summer of 2019. Since then, the playmaker has featured in 104 competitive appearances for the club, scoring 25 goals while chipping in with 36 assists.

Quite extraordinarily, 25 of Nkunku’s 61 goal involvements for Leipzig have come in the new season. He is indeed the third most productive player in the Champions League this season with seven goals and three assists, while his tally in the Bundesliga stands at five goals and eight assists. It makes him the league’s second-highest assist-maker, behind Thomas Muller.

Nkunku’s rapid rise to prominence has now put Manchester United on red alert as the Premier League giants look to shore up their attacking options in January. The Red Devils are already preparing for life without Jesse Lingard, who is tipped to move to West Ham next month, while the future of Donny van de Beek also remains uncertain.

The addition of Nkunku, therefore, could go a long way in further strengthening Manchester United’s offensive unit. It will be even more interesting to see if Rangnick can also land his other top target Timo Werner, who is another player that has been successful under the stewardship of the newly-appointed United coach.

In addition to Werner and Nknuku, Rangnick has also expressed his desire to RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele, so it certainly promises to be a busy transfer window for the Premier League bigwigs next month.
