Manchester City have reportedly emerged as a potential destination for Real Madrid superstar Toni Kroos this January.

A recent report from El Nacional has offered an update on the future of Toni Kroos. The Real Madrid midfielder is facing an uncertain future at the club, with his current contract expiring in 2023. His wish is to continue in Madrid, with the German international particularly excited to play in the remodelled Santiago Bernabeu.

Lately, though, it appears Kroos is considering an exit from Real Madrid amid interest from Manchester City. The midfielder is apparently attracted by the idea of joining the Premier League giants and reuniting with Pep Guardiola.

At the moment, Kroos enjoys the status of a legend at Real Madrid, having enjoyed immense success since his move from Bayern Munich in 2014. He has featured in 331 competitive matches for the club, securing three UEFA Champions League and two Spanish league titles, among many other major trophies in Spain.

However, at the age of 31, the German believes a prolonged stay at the Bernabeu might be impractical. He will have to be content with a short contract with a significant pay cut while he may also lose his importance at Real Madrid, due to Florentino Perez’s directive to Carlo Ancelotti, for offering young players more game-time.

It could enable Federico Valverde and Edouard Camavinga slowly become prominent figures in Real Madrid’s first-team plans while Kroos and Luka Modric will have to settle for fewer minutes. The latter has already been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu, with clubs like Manchester City and Newcastle United desperate to secure his services next season.

It appears Kroos could follow suit, especially amid interest from Manchester City. The midfielder believes he can be a guaranteed starter at the Etihad due to Pep Guardiola’s rotation policy. He will also have the opportunity to not only play in the Premier League but also compete for the biggest prizes in Europe, including the UEFA Champions League.

Moreover, Kroos will be able to reunite with Guardiola. The two had spent a year together during their time at Bayern before Kroos eventually left the club after a spat with the club bosses. While the Real Madrid midfielder has no intention of returning to Bavaria, he will be able to once again work alongside Guardiola at Manchester City.

Not to mention, the Citizens are in the market for a new midfielder as well due to the lack of depth in the current unit. They are among the clubs interested in the services of Frenkie de Jong, but in Kroos, Guardiola could find himself a proven superstar who can lead the team in the coming few years, especially once Fernandinho loses his value in the first-team.

Wrong club. It’s United who buy players at the end of their careers, not City. De Jong maybe, but not Kroos. Tho’ why we would need **another** midfielder?
