Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic has reportedly no interest in joining Newcastle United despite their lucrative €7 million per season contract offer.

According to a report from Calciomercato, Newcastle United are likely to face defeat in their pursuit of Inter Milan midfield mainstay Marcelo Brozovic as the Croatian international has no interest in joining the Tyneside outfit.

Brozovic has been with Inter Milan since 2015 when he arrived from Dinamo Zagreb and has grown into one of the best operators in his position in Serie A over the years. To date, the 29-year-old has featured 261 times for the Nerazzurri, bagging 26 goals and registering 35 assists to go along with that.

Brozovic played a key role in Inter Milan’s Serie A title triumph last season and has continued in the same vein of form in the new campaign. However, his future at San Siro has become a hot topic of discussion in recent weeks due to his contract situation. The 29-year-old has just seven months left on his current deal with the Italian champions, and talks of a renewal haven’t yielded favourable results yet.

It has alerted a host of clubs across Europe, including Newcastle United, who are keen on snapping up the Croatian international. The Magpies are showing a lot of ambition heading into the January transfer window following their mega-money takeover by the Saudi-backed consortium, which has made them one of the richest clubs in the game.

The midfield department at St. James’ Park is bereft of star quality beyond Jonjo Shelvey, with the likes of Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Jeff Hendrick failing to deliver regularly. At the same time, Joe Willock has also been unable to repeat his heroics from the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

A quality midfielder like Brozovic would have been a great acquisition for the Magpies, given his world-class quality and proven pedigree at the highest level. However, a move for the Inter Milan midfielder is unlikely to materialise as he is uninterested in the switch. This, despite Newcastle United meeting his wage demands by offering a lucrative contract worth €7 million per season.

Instead, Brozovic is keen on continuing at Inter Milan itself, although they have yet to make an offer to meet his demands. But the report adds that both parties are intent on working out a deal at the earliest. So, the Magpies will likely have to kiss goodbye to any lingering hopes of signing him.

Given Newcastle’s battle for relegation, this could turn out to be the scenario in their pursuit of any high-profile players ahead of the January window.
