Ramy Bensebaini has reportedly popped up on the radar of Barcelona, with Bayern Munich also interested in the 26-year-old defender.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Ramy Bensebaini is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the January transfer window. The 26-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach defender is also being courted by Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Ramy Bensebaini joined Borussia Monchengladbach from Stade Rennais in August 2019 and has since established himself as one of the most consistent defenders in Bundesliga. The Algerian international has come leaps and bounds in the last two years, establishing himself as a regular feature for club and country.

To date, the 26-year-old has made 67 appearances for Gladbach, chipping in with 14 goals and six assists. His progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe setting their sights on him. And two of his prospective suitors are Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The interest from Barcelona is understandable, considering Jordi Alba is approaching the final phase of his career. The Spanish international has suffered a dip in playing levels in recent years, which is why the Blaugrana must lay down a succession plan for him.

In addition, it has also been suggested that Alba is a target for Paris Saint-Germain, which could put Barcelona in a spot of bother. So, the Catalan giants need to be on the lookout for a viable left-back to sign at the earliest possible opportunity, with Bensebaini emerging as a key target.

The 26-year-old is not the only left-back on Barcelona’s radar, with Jose Gaya also an option on their radar. However, Bensebaini could be a more handy option to sign for Barcelona, considering he can also play as a centre-back. With Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti facing uncertain futures at Camp Nou, the La Liga heavyweights could do with someone like Bensebaini in their squad.

However, Barcelona face stiff competition from Bayern Munich in pursuit of Bensebaini, with the Bundesliga champions also searching for a centre-back and a left-back. So, with competition for his signature being intense, it remains to be seen if Barcelona can sign the Algerian defender in the January transfer window.
