La Liga giants Valencia are reportedly set to battle Liverpool in pursuit of 25-year-old Spanish international Adama Traore.

According to Fichajes, La Liga giants Valencia are set to challenge Premier League heavyweights Liverpool in the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Adama Traore.

The 25-year-old is one of the most enigmatic wingers in the English top flight. A talented player, Traore has the physical traits to hold his own against robust defenders and has the technical ability to boot. However, his inconsistency proves to be a major hindrance in taking the next step in his career.

Traore has been a revelation since joining Wolves in 2018. He has since made 144 appearances for the club, scoring ten goals and assisting 18 more during that time. An average of 0.19 goal contributions per game does not do justice to his impressive talent.

At 25, he should be looking to take his ability to the next level. Whether that can happen at the Molineux is debatable. Liverpool, however, can offer him the opportunity to do just that. The Reds already possess one of the best frontlines in world football. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are all in their prime, but apart from Diogo Jota, the lack of dependable backups is a real issue.

In Traore, Jurgen Klopp can land himself a very promising player whose best is yet to be unlocked. The Liverpool tactician is adept at making players take the next step in their developmental cycle. As things stand, Traore needs just that. A move to Anfield could see him spend the prime of his career under a manager who could help him unlock his potential, and he does not need to look any further than Jota.

Jota swapped the Molineux for Anfield in 2020 and has since upped his game considerably. There is no reason why Traore cannot do the same at Liverpool. Recent reports have suggested that the Spanish international is open to joining Liverpool. The Reds, however, face competition from La Liga giants Valencia.

Los Che have a good relationship with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes. This could give them an upper hand over Liverpool when it comes to negotiations. The Spanish club, however, could find it difficult to compete financially against the Merseysiders.

The Reds can also offer Traore a better chance of winning silverware. Liverpool are currently one of the finest teams in world football, while Valencia have fallen off the radar in recent years. It might be argued that a move to the Mestalla is not an upgrade over what he currently has at Wolves.

Securing Traore could prove expensive. Wolves are open to selling the Spanish international but are seeking €60 million for his services. It is excessive for a player who has just under two years left on his current deal.

Contract negotiations between Traore and Wolves have proven inconclusive so far. As a result, the Black Country outfit could struggle to hold the upper hand in any transfer talks. Whether this means he can leave for a lower price, next summer remains to be seen. Traore has all the makings of a world-beater should he fulfil his potential. Time will tell whether he will go on to achieve it and where that will be.
