Real Madrid have reportedly initiated discussions with the entourage of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah over a move next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Bernabeu Digital, Mohamed Salah has emerged as a key target for Real Madrid for next summer’s transfer window. The Spanish giants have already opened talks with the Liverpool forward’s representatives, with the player considering a move to the Spanish capital.

Mohamed Salah joined Liverpool from AS Roma in July 2017 and has since been a talismanic figure for the Reds. However, this season’s form has been on another level altogether, with the Egyptian attacker amassing 17 goals and seven assists in 18 appearances across all competitions.

His irresistible performances have prompted many, including Rivaldo, to predict Salah as the Ballon d’Or winner this year. At the same time, some of the biggest clubs in Europe are hoping to lure him away from Liverpool, with Real Madrid being one of his prospective suitors.

The interest from Real Madrid is understandable despite their keenness to sign Kylian Mbappe. That is because Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio are facing uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu, while Gareth Bale is expected to depart as a free agent when his contract runs out next summer.

So, Real Madrid could be forced to enter the market for a couple of attacking reinforcements to get their first-team squad in order. To that end, Salah is a viable target for the Spanish giants, with the player himself open to joining the club.

The Liverpool forward has previously been urged to stay put at Anfield instead of joining Real Madrid or Barcelona. However, with his contract expiring in a little over 18 months, the Reds are in a precarious position over his long-term future, which has kicked Real Madrid into action.

According to the report, the Merengues have initiated contact with the representatives of Salah to discuss the possibility of a transfer next summer. What remains to be seen is if the stars align perfectly for the Egyptian international to leave Liverpool in favour of joining Real Madrid or if the Premier League heavyweights managed to keep hold of their prized possession.
