Liverpool are reportedly interested in 27-year-old French striker Sebastian Haller as Jurgen Klopp eyes a proven forward to lead the line at Anfield.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool might be looking for a striker in the January transfer window, and Sebastian Haller’s name gets a mention. The 27-year-old French forward is one of Europe’s most in-form players right now and could be open to moving back to the Premier League soon.

Sebastian Haller has performed beyond expectations at Ajax since his move to the Dutch club at the start of 2021. The Frenchman will not have fond memories of his time in the Premier League prior to that, as he thoroughly struggled to make a mark at West Ham United.

After a fruitful second half of 2020/21, Haller has proven his worth this season by amassing 18 goals and five assists across all competitions for Ajax. His displays are attracting interest back from the Premier League, with Liverpool reportedly tracking him with a view of a January move.

The Merseysiders are increasingly linked with attackers as they face uncertain times in January. With star forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane set to be absent for over a month due to their impending participation at the Africa Cup of Nations, Liverpool might find themselves shorn of quality goalscorers in a crucial period of the season.

Jurgen Klopp would like to keep the pressure on Manchester City and Chelsea in the Premier League title race, which would be difficult without Salah and Mane. The Liverpool boss is prepared to keep Divock Origi for this reason despite many clubs being interested in signing him in January.

Meanwhile, the other remaining options would be Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Takumi Minamino. Klopp wants another reliable forward and is willing to sign Haller in the January transfer window. Liverpool are also linked with Adama Traore, Jeremy Doku and Ismaila Sarr as alternatives.

In addition, Jarrod Bowen is another player who could make a sensational move to Liverpool. Haller’s contract at Ajax does not expire until 2025, which means Liverpool will have to pay a hefty sum to convince the Dutch giants to sell the 27-year-old.

The Ivorian might be receptive to returning to the Premier League, where he could have a sense of unfinished business. After proving his worth at Ajax, the French striker might be eager to further his career in England and possibly make a point.

It remains to be seen if those links with Liverpool are genuine and if Klopp will sustain the temptation of signing a new forward next month. January will certainly be a crucial month for Liverpool when they will lose two of their star names temporarily, which could have an effect on their season and quest for titles.
