Juventus are reportedly keen on keeping hold of Weston McKennie in January despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Caught Offside, Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Weston McKennie. It appears Juventus are hopeful of keeping hold of the 23-year-old midfielder in the January transfer window despite interest from several top clubs across Europe.

Juventus were initially expecting to cash in on McKennie, along with a few other unwanted stars, including Aaron Ramsey. However, it seems the American international has made a solid impression among the Serie A giants’ coaching staff, including Massimiliano Allegri. As a result, they are hoping to retain the services of the player for the foreseeable future.

Formerly of Schalke, McKennie arrived in Turin in the summer of 2020. After making an early impression, his loan move was made permanent earlier in the year. But the move has not panned out well for either of the two parties, with McKennie struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular.

The 23-year-old was initially not favoured much by the new coach, either. But it appears the midfielder has enjoyed a decent run of form lately, even emerging as one of the club’s best performers in the month of November. He notably scored twice in defeats to Sassuolo and Hellas Verona while starring in the Serie A wins over Fiorentina and Lazio.

Weston McKennie’s recent form has prompted Juventus to rethink their stance on the player. But the player, nonetheless, continues to be tracked by Tottenham Hotspur, who are eyeing a January swoop for the former Schalke prodigy.

It appears the American international has been identified as an ideal option in Tottenham’s quest to find a more qualified midfield partner for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Not to mention, the Lilywhites are also preparing for life without Tanguy Ndombele, as the Frenchman is reportedly not wanted by new coach Antonio Conte.

However, with Juventus unwilling to part ways with McKennie, Tottenham may have to set their sights on other alternatives. They are among the clubs in contention to sign Lovro Majer of Rennes, but the Croat might turn out to be a difficult target.

As for Juventus, it remains to be seen how they treat McKennie in the coming weeks. But even if they do manage to keep hold of the 23-year-old American, the Serie A giants will still be expecting a mass exodus in the near future. Reports suggest Chelsea are already preparing an €84 million bid for Federico Chiesa while Matthijs de Ligt is apparently on the radar of several clubs across Europe.
